Homosexuality: Nature versus NurtureThis is a featured page

I came across this video a few years back and used it for my presentation for another module. I thought that it’d be interesting to share this with everyone in this class.

This video discusses on whether homosexuality is based on nature or nurture. Scientists and researchers that were interviewed in the video consider several possible factors including genes, environment as well as hormones. There was even the consideration of the factor that “the higher number of older brothers a man has, the greater the likelihood that the man would be gay” and whether a man is right-handed or left-handed, it will matter as well. At the end of the video, the narrator concluded that this issue still has more questions than answers.

Indeed I agree with the notion that it is hard to come to a conclusion about whether homosexuality is based on nature or nurture. Many times, people find it easier to turn to ‘nature’ as it is observable or constant but as mentioned in the lectures, ‘nature’ such as sex organs can be easily altered through surgery reconstruction and hormones can also be affected through the environment that one is in. Nonetheless, it would also be inaccurate if we were to base it solely on environment or ‘nurture’ as we all are inevitably born with certain types of sex organs, hormones and chromosomes that make us different. I personally am of the opinion that it is most probably a complex interplay of both nature and nurture. It’d be great to hear other people’s take on this issue.:)
